On Schrodinger's Cats - v2 - 24/02/25
There may also be a pattern in the negative space of our records
Blank dates break disconnected timelines
If you ruminate enough on silence
It's not so much that the silence speaks back
As it is that silence demands answers by looking
And you fear its disappointment with the answers
Our silences themselves could have the answers
If only there were something in the records
If the only shape to give the day is looking
It isn't that you're measuring the timelines
As that you're playing them around again and back
To be sure you can explain them to the silence
In our missing time we miss the shouting silence
We'd welcome you if you had any answers
If looking out invites looking back
It's less that you're weighing fading records
Than you've been holding porous timelines
And can decay possibilities by looking
Yowling, shrinking begging for a look
In our boxes, under our blades, in silence
If the glancing light glances off endless timelines
It's not our fault you cannot give us any answers
It's your scattering and shed ungathered records
When you look at us you will be welcomed back
How long, you ask us. Has the blade been at our backs
When did we turn our heads to know to look
If you'd paid due respect to the tingling in your records
It's less that you'd have more to add than silence
As maybe you'd be surer in your answers
Enough to take your pick of all the timelines
It's sickening, to haunt so many timelines
Apparitions looking in and looking back
If you feel we demand far too many answers
It's more that we see the terror in your look
Than that we're expecting more than silence
After all, we can always check your records
Notes and connections
broken sestina - switching the "looking/ look" bit around, leaving off the three lines at the end.

Mixing voices - I like the switch halfway through between not just look/ing but also between the "our/you" perspectives though I don't know how to articulate it?
