Early 21st Century internet culture - a case study
Comparative Biology and Sociology in Isolated Planetary Ecosystems
Looking at the world around me in the abstract
Oh! The astronaut could be like a blobfish - exposure to the vacuum of space as equivalent to decompression exiting ocean.
Something historical - not the internet culture (digital? Culture - like material culture) but autobiographical - or a literary analysis of the what's it called? Supplemental? writings of a fictional author who got big posthumously, since I've been dwelling on my writing in that vein.

Dates! Dating system - like stardate subs in for bc/ad - a date based on the age of the planet could be very cool. If there had been research into some kind of precise dating for the formation of the earth and years were based on that post as shit somewhat de-christianises
Looking at the world from a post-billionaire-exodus perspective.
The rich and powerful left after stripmining the planet and we don't know what happened to them but well it certainly has been easier to get things done since they did.
And none of this is said outright it's just implied in how time periods are labelled and how different concurrent events across the different pieces tie together.
Just giving me a chance to mess around with different forms and worldbuilding. It doesn't have to be that serious.
Oh it's anyone the rich and powerful consider useful to colonizing another planet and loyal to the social order. Includes cops and soldiers. Hype bros.
Select Bootlickers.
They believed their own hype so hard they set off before the planet was even that far gone.
And we still had racism and sexism and homophobia and all of that shit to work out.
Pre-Exodic Earth
I mean contemporaneously now it is referred to as late stage capitalism.
And look, the thing about global supply chains is that they are also perfectly able to be used for all the things they are used for outside of capitalism or any other hierarchical system. Under anarchism or any other more equitable, interdependent (buzzword?) System or structure or whatever is there no recognition of people having shared needs? If we are not constantly competing for scraps do we have no incentive to care about each other? - Daily Pages 2026-04-12.pdf
If the people making the medicines had all their needs met by a global community who needed the medicine would they simply stop making it? Is the fact that they are paid enough to live on the reason they studied and worked and learned how to make something that saves lives? Do the scientists now working on addressing climate change only do so because they are paid? Do doctors and nurses only show up every day for hours on end because it pays just about enough if you squint? If it did not cost years of lost income and student debt to qualify would we not have enough doctors and nurses and healthcare proffesionals to give all of them decent hours and support? Everyone working a job they acknowledge is bullshit. Everyone on minimum wage for vital society sustaining work like caring for and feeding people and keeping our homes and public spaces clean. Everyone buried under rubble and facing the slow annihilation of their people as these fuckers play ego trip football with their lives.
The future these articles are written from starts with the departure of the ruling class to colonise the fucking moon. It is watched from Earth, and eventually aid missions are sent because they didn't account for the actually gruelling work of feeding and treating and keeping everyone clean and alive. There is a brief war which peters out immediately because time has been spent developing shielding and non lethal defense and the Moon Colony has been mostly infighting and trying to subjugate each other. Because like that's the whole idea behind Peter Thiel's weird fucking philosophy, and Musk has said in interviews about abandoning the planet.
What if what happens is not a violent revolution but a simple advance in technology currently being developed so as to allow the people currently most directly responsible for fucking the planet over to do what they have been openly talking about wanting to do as soon as they have extracted as much as they can from the planet. And that I think will not be measured by the planet being fucked beyond repair or even complete social collapse, but rather when it stops being profitable.
What then is the work now? Survival, building the structures that sustain us, feeding the imaginations that will birth that world. I think social reproduction is more than parenthood. I think it takes a village. And writers are part of that village. The oddball adults who flourish and look different and are kind and seen about and show the oddball kids there is a future as whoever they want to be are part of that village. Global village. What if those 150 connections humans can meaningfully sustain were truly global and truly relationships. Your reflective practice buddy in Tehran. Your guitar group from Peru and Spain and Indonesia. Look, it's undeniable that there were advances during the middle ages in Europe. But under the yoke of the church progress was heavily slowed and it was only once the church's power diminished that we got the renaissance and enlightenment and whatnot. And they still had Problems. Big Problems. Such as The Divine Right Of Kings and such. Monarchies and Aristocracies. And again. Many advances. But for every advance how many more were lost or slowed because there was only a handful of privileged minds at work at any given time? Whilst more starved and died and were enslaved. ^^ Above is a bit weird. I think envisioning everything wrong with society as the result of a few wrongheaded people we can simply remove to fix everything is a bit fashy tbh.
I think the premise has weight - what if all the rich and powerful people did do what they want to do and fuck off and colonise another planet?
I don't think it's as simple as everyone would just work together - I think that there would be upheavals and violence and power vacuum etc. I wonder what power structures might emerge if everyone occupying the top rungs were to take themselves and their families out of the equation, but I think that the only reason these power structures are able to continue is that enough people on the lower tiers believe in them, and believe there is no alternative.
It is that belief that would need to change - and I wonder what the transitionary steps will be - what forms will be tried, what arguments will be had and what discourses will look like without the investment of the ruling class into their own perpetuation, into the belief in the rightness of their perpetuation.
certainly solarpunk.
Perhaps it would be good to read other examples
but that might get in the way of coming up with my own at first at least.
flesh out the idea. write something in it. then look at what other people have done differently or similarly.
